CICS Ralph Ellison Students Have Award Winning Entrepreneurial Skills
May 10, 2011Congrats to Ralph Ellison students Juwan Walton and Anthony Driver who competed as finalists in the 6th Annual Future Founders Citywide Business Plan Competition Wednesday, May 4 at the Hard Rock Café Chicago.
Juwan competed as a finalist in the Service category for the business "Splitting Image Portraits" and finished in second place. He also placed in the top ten for the entire city and took home more than $300 in cash and prizes.
Anthony competed in the Technology Category for the business "Charge N Go" and finished in first place for his category and won the city championship taking home more than $7100 in scholarships and prizes.
Both students will advance to compete for a chance to win a place at the national business plan competition in New York City this summer.
In addition, Tierra Robinson was the recipient of the "Live Your Dreams" scholarship. This scholarship is presented in memory of the late Chicagoland Chamber employee, Josie R. Dunnett. Mrs. Dunnett served as the executive assistant to the president and passed at the age of 30 after a battle with cancer. Based on the nomination that the CEC received from her teacher, Mr. Timbers-Ausar, the scholarship committee chose Tierra as a worthy recipient to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dunnett.
A special congratulations also goes to teacher and mentor Mr. Conrad Timbers and all the students who participated in the business plan competition! All of our students did an excellent job and made CICS Ralph Ellison and Civitas Schools proud! Please congratulate Eric Bosby, Danielle McClain, Cambria Merrill, Tiffany Owens and Evon Williams their on their success!
