Join Our Team

Civitas Schools is seeking highly-motivated teachers who have a passion to work in urban schools and prepare the next generation of leaders for college, work and life.

Ideal candidates posses strong instructional knowledge and skills and identify closely with the Civitas Schools mission and values.

Civitas teachers believe that all students can achieve at high levels and are unwavering in their efforts to ensure that all students master the skills required for lifelong success. They are also deeply committed to working together and supporting each other as professionals.

How We Support Our Teachers

Civitas Schools views our staff, especially teachers, as our greatest asset.  We invest significant time, resources and human capital into developing teachers to be outstanding professionals.

Our schools are all host to an innovative teacher mentoring program designed and supported by the Chicago New Teacher Center.  All teachers new to the organization have the opportunity to work with a mentor teacher during their first year at Civitas.

Teachers are guided by the Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, and instructional coaches support the work of all teachers.  Coaches visit classrooms on a weekly basis and meet regularly with individual teachers for the purpose of supporting professional growth and progress toward individual and school-wide goals.

We implement a rigorous, transparent system of teacher evaluation rooted in Danielson’s Framework.  Teachers are formally observed 2-3 times per year, meet formally with an evaluator a minimum of four times per year, and participate in an annual summative conference for the purpose of benchmarking performance and setting goals for the following school year.

We provide a clearly defined career progression pathway that is aligned with performance as measured by the evaluation system. Teachers have the opportunity to progress through four career bands: Novice, Associate, Professional and Master. Increased professional responsibility and elevated levels of compensation are provided within each band.

All schools provide weekly professional development designed to build teacher capacity, deepen instructional skills and promote a culture of professional inquiry and learning.

Our teachers have voice!  Teachers at each school have the opportunity to participate in three advisory committees:  the Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Committee, the School Handbook and Policy Committee and the Family and Community Engagement Committee.
